Write Start Winners 2023 - Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Film Graduates Hayley Louise McGuire & Jayme Bartlett are Ready to Roll!

In March 2023, Blade & Bow secured our very first short film commission when we won the Write Start Competition, a wonderful creative initiative funded by actor Sam Heughan.

"Write Start, established by global screen star, author, entrepreneur and philanthropist Sam Heughan, is an annual award that encourages students across music, drama, dance, production and film to join forces to develop original new work." - Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

As a result of our win, we went on to create Baobhan Sith, a short psychological thriller and drama set in 1970s Glasgow. The film follows Matthew, a tortured young art student as he deals with the recent death of his emotionally abusive mother. He desperately searches to escape his pain through his art, but does it heal him or lead him to madness?

"An exploration of the monsters we create for ourselves and the haunting effects of childhood trauma, 'Baobhan Sith' is the tale of a wounded child and the endless shadow cast over his life by his dark past. We all have our demons and it is time for Matthew to face his."
